Laundry Day

It's a rainy Saturday and be ause I've got nothing else planned I figured laundry would be a good use of my time. It needed to be don, and the laundrymat is close by, providing a reprieve from my room. Laundry makes me think of Eddie izzard, the British commedien. He has a bit about clothes infiltrating the wash, the colors conspire to send a blue sock into the white load.

This week went well. Classes were good, my new laptop battery holds up beautifuly! There was a game of Risk (which I had never played but found entertaining to watch) at Pawels apartment Thursday night. We decided we would buy the England match tonight since it is only going to be broadcast online (they had sold the rights to the now defunct Setanta broadcast company) and after that one of the international coordinators is hosting something at her place.

I'm planning a trip to Lyon but I don't quite know when. I was thinking this comming weekend but some people wanted to go to colmar (the begining of the wine route I believe) I would be tempted to spend Friday in colmar and go on to Lyon after. We'll see.

That's all for now I guess. Just sort of a lazy Saturday...

  1. When I die I'm going to start a blog. I want to give everyone an up-to-the-minute update on life in the after life. The drawback, however, is that blogs are so one dimensional. They're all talk or all listen, depending on whether you're on the sending or receiving end.

Today was an excellent example. Standing in the kitchen surrounded by the ingredients for lasagna, I wanted to talk to you about the recipe. "Should I drain the liquid after I browned the ground beef?"

The answer was very intuitive. (Do not discard the juice. If there is excessive grease, skim it from the top.)

The limitation of a blog is that it is one-dimentional. It is not like a phone call where you can ask a question and expect an answer. If I want to know about our lasanga recipe, I must learn how to navigate the new technogy or risk no response, or a time-delayed response.

Don't worry about the liquids; one hundred question await you.

  2. This has been a glorious but hectic weekend. Friday night was a small dinner at the house which Atsushi's friend prepared. It was Korean and it was wonderful. There was a beef dish that was incredible.

Saturday we hosted a dinner for the French Market committee. They cleared $75,000 which is a record. We made lasagna for 25 people. We'll be eating lasagna for the rest of the week.

Today we hosted a reception for Stonewall Democrats. There were 100 people at the house but thankfully we didn't have to do anything but open the door. Congressman Carson received an award and right before the presentation a woman got too close to some candles in the dining room and her hair caught on fire. She immediately stopped, dropped and rolled. Meanwhile people were throwing their drinks on her. The fire alarm goes off, the alarm company calls and we're all in a panic. It was, needless to say, a hair-raising experience. I was standing in the foyer and when I saw the flames I almost paniced; it was frightening. Thankfully no one was hurt. Everyone, by the way, was very complimentary of the house and more than one person asked who picked the color in the kitchen.

I'm glad to hear classes are going well and that you'll be traveling to Lyon. South, correct? Enjoy your trip and keep us posted.
