Oops

Sorry to have been gone for a bit!

Monday was run of the mill, ran some errands and had lunch, nothing special really. Tuesday I got groceries (some tea since Katherine has an electric kettle and some breakfast stuff) and then enjoyed my 6 hours of class... And today I've gone through a make up class for an hour and now am getting ready for my next class in an hour.

I'm working on setting everything up for my travels with my mom when she gets here. My other project right now is the getting my classes selected for next semester. I had to start with selecting credits my study abroad could fill in for and then see what was left. If all goes according to plan, which it hopefully will, I'll be covered. We'll see.

Tonight is more Champions League football at Dubliner. I hope Chelsea'll be on, but with Man U v CSKA Moscow starting earlier than the rest, I figure that game'll be on one tv with the epic match between the two most successful clubs in europe (AC Milan and Real Madrid) might get priority on one of the others. Honestly, after yesterday's great results (Liverpool losing, Arsenal drawing) todays games seem to be set up for something special. Chelsea v. Athletico Madrid in London, Real v. AC, Bordeaux v. Bayern Munich, lots of good games today. Let's hope they're all thrillers!

  1. I spent time with Grandpa John last night. We will play bridge next Wednesday and I thought it would be a good idea to practice so I was familiar with his bidding. He taught me a lot so it was very useful. I have always bid 1 NT with 16-18 points without regard to distribution. He said not to bid NT if you have a void, a singleton or two doubletons. He also taught me a weak two bid that he uses when he has six in a suit and 8-10 points. Another convention was a 2 club response to a 1 NT opening which is asking for your four- card major. Last, but not least, if you bid the weak 2 convention, when you have a legitimate 2-bid (22-24 points) bid 2 clubs to indicate points and your partner should respond with his or her stronger major.

It was a great night and I learned a lot, if I can just retain it.

Your mother is looking forward to her visit.

  2. Tonight was a celebration of football and spinner. Uncle Joel and Uncle Frank celebrated football; I celebrated spinner. Uncle Frank was in town for the national FFA convention. I stopped in at the convention center to see him this afternoon and went back downtown to pick him up for dinner. Dinner was preceded by Uncle Joel's awesome cheese dip with ground beef and salsa and punctuated with football in the front yard. I oversaw the consumption of cheese dip.

After enough cheese to clog the artery's of an average man, we moved on to pizza, garlic bread and buffalo wings. There was a combination of red wine and Spotted Cow to quench our thirst.

Then came the spinner. We divided into five teams. Logan supported Uncle Joel. Liam and I were seated next to Molly and your Mother. Casey and his mom and Uncle Frank and Bailey formed the last two teams.

Liam and I were champions after a hard-fought game. It was a great game with a minimum of cheating.

On the way home we talked with Uncle Frank about his job. His company is called Kuhn and I believe it is a Swiss company with factories in France. Frank felt that they could use people with French speaking skills who understand agriculture and IT. I guess the point is that there are opportunities out there that you may not have even dreamed of.

Liam and Casey have big games this weekend. Liam is at 11:30 a.m. and Casey plays at 4:00 p.m. at Tab. We'll keep you posted.

  3. This week has been gray and wet. After days of brilliant color the trees have taken on a drab appearance in the gray light. The rain has seemingly stripped the trees of all their yellow leaves; green, red and orange remain intact, tenaciously boasting of what reamins of autumn's brilliance. The forecast speaks ominously of seasonable weather which translates into slate gray until April.

It's a quiet morning in the kitchen. I have lots to do, but right now I am waiting for your mother to get home so I can go to Liam's football game. It's a play-off game at Mother Seton.
